The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release and safe return of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor, a billionaire businessman, and a Rev. Sister who were abducted by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka in Awka, the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, saying the two victims had regained their freedom and returned safely.
The Command said it was taking necessary steps to establish the circumstances surrounding their release and obtain information that could assist investigations into the abduction.
The development has prompted the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the safe return of the victims and directed an intensified intelligence-led operation and manhunt for those responsible for the abduction.
According to the statement, the ongoing operation involves the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agunechemba Security Operatives and other relevant security agencies.
The Command said the multi-agency operation was aimed at tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
CP Ama also called on residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in identifying the abductors and preventing further attacks.
The Command appreciated members of the public for their support and cooperation, stressing that timely information from residents remains crucial to ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across Anambra State.
