The Anambra State Police Command has strengthened its operational control rooms to closely monitor police checkpoints, patrol teams and other field activities across the state as part of a renewed drive to eliminate extortion, harassment and other forms of police misconduct.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 16, 2026, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the initiative was introduced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, following feedback from the recent Anambra Security Stakeholders’ Interactive Sessions held across the three senatorial districts.
The new monitoring mechanism is aimed at strengthening operational supervision, accountability and professionalism while ensuring that police personnel deployed to strategic locations conduct themselves in line with established regulations.
Under the strategy, the Command’s Operational Control Rooms will maintain closer oversight of checkpoints, patrol formations and other operational activities across the state.
Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Team Commanders will also be required to account for the activities of personnel deployed under their respective jurisdictions.
Ikenga said reports and complaints involving alleged extortion, harassment or other forms of unprofessional conduct would be promptly received, monitored and escalated for necessary action.
CP Nnanna stressed that although the Command remained committed to providing effective security and protecting the lives and property of residents, no police officer would be permitted to abuse the responsibility entrusted to him or her by the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner warned that personnel found exploiting members of the public through extortion or engaging in other forms of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the law and established regulations.
He consequently directed all Area Commanders, DPOs and Tactical Team Commanders to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
The Command urged Ndi Anambra and other residents to support the initiative by promptly reporting incidents of extortion, harassment and other unprofessional conduct by police personnel.

Ikenga said the Command remained committed to professional, people-oriented and accountable policing, assuring residents that credible complaints would receive prompt attention and appropriate action.
