President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, urging him to use his victory to unite the people of the state and pursue growth and development.
Tinubu, in a statement issued on Sunday, August 16, 2026, said Adeleke’s victory reflected the confidence the people of Osun State had reposed in his leadership.
The President disclosed that he had personally called Adeleke earlier in the day to congratulate him on the outcome of the governorship election.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke @AAdeleke_01 earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.”
Tinubu wished Adeleke success as he prepares for another four years in office, but urged him to make reconciliation and inclusive governance a priority following the keenly contested election.
“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election.”
The President also commended the other contestants for their participation, describing their courage and discipline as contributions to the country’s democratic development.
“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture.”
According to Tinubu, the election outcome reflected the will of the electorate and offered further assurance that democracy would continue to thrive in Nigeria.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land.”
Tinubu further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their roles in the conduct of the election, describing it as peaceful and transparent.
“I must also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies for conducting a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.”
He concluded by expressing hope for the continued strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
