The Enugu State Government has opened applications for a free artisan skills development programme aimed at equipping residents with practical skills, upgrading existing competencies and improving access to better economic opportunities.

The programme, known as the SUPA-ITF Enugu Artisan Skills Accelerator, is being implemented by the Enugu State Government through the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency (Enugu SME Center), in partnership with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

The initiative is designed to support people who already possess a skill and want to improve their proficiency, those with practical experience seeking further development, as well as individuals interested in acquiring vocational skills and building sustainable careers.

Training will be provided across five key areas: Building and Construction; Fashion, Garment and Leather; Automotive; Information and Communication Technology (ICT); and Hospitality.

A total of 700 beneficiaries will be selected for the programme, with the state government stressing that the training is completely free for successful applicants.

The initiative is part of the administration’s broader focus on skills development, entrepreneurship and expanding economic opportunities for residents, particularly artisans and young people seeking practical pathways into employment and self-employment.

The government urged interested residents to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing the importance of upgrading existing skills to improve competitiveness and access to better opportunities.

Applicants have been advised to apply early and ensure that all information supplied during registration is accurate.

Applications are currently open through the Enugu SME Center’s online portal.

The programme reinforces Governor Peter Mbah’s administration’s emphasis on human capital development and its broader vision of equipping residents with relevant skills to participate more effectively in the state’s growing economy.
