The member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, has flagged off the completion of the 1.3-kilometre Ndafufa Ugwuaji–Obeagu Link Road as part of efforts to improve road connectivity and stimulate economic activities across the constituency.
The project, which is being executed in phases, follows the completion of the first phase covering the Ayo Open Space–Ndafufa Ugwuaji axis. The ongoing second phase will connect Ndafufa Ugwuaji to Obeagu, while the proposed third phase is expected to extend the network through the Obeagu–Obinagu–Obeagu Amechi link road.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Atu underscored the importance of functional road infrastructure to economic development, improved connectivity and the wellbeing of residents.
He said the third phase would further open up adjoining communities, including Obinagu and Amechi, by expanding the road network and improving access across the area.
The President-General of the Obeagu Ugwuaji Town Union, Hon. Chinonso Freedom Obi, expressed excitement over the project, describing it as a significant intervention that would contribute to the development of the communities.
Obi also commended Atu for the quality of work delivered during the first phase of the project, expressing confidence that the ongoing phase would further transform the area.
The project engineer, Mr. Ikechukwu Okorie of Ideas Construction Limited, provided details of the technical specifications and expected completion timeline.
Okorie assured that the earthworks and double-drainage system would be completed before November 2026.
According to him, the road is designed to a standard width of 7.5 metres, measured from inside to inside, and incorporates a dual-drainage system designed to facilitate efficient water flow, protect the road from erosion and improve its durability.
He said the design and construction specifications were aimed at ensuring that the road could withstand the environmental challenges associated with the area.
When completed, the Ndafufa Ugwuaji–Obeagu Link Road is expected to improve connectivity among Ugwuaji, Obeagu and neighbouring communities, while facilitating the movement of people, goods and services.
The project is also expected to boost commercial activities and contribute to the broader economic development of communities within the constituency.
