President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, appointing former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General while Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah emerges as a key figure leading the party’s presidential campaign in the South-East.

The appointments were contained in a State House statement issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima as Vice Chairman, while APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will also serve as Vice Chairman.

Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and prominent APC figure, will oversee the overall coordination of the campaign as Director-General, with Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, appointed Secretary.

APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman were named Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.

Mbah to lead South-East mobilisation

In one of the key appointments for the region, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has been positioned to lead the APC’s presidential campaign effort in the South-East as the party seeks to consolidate its support base across the zone ahead of the 2027 election.

Mbah’s role places him at the forefront of the APC’s South-East mobilisation strategy, with the governor expected to coordinate efforts aimed at strengthening the party’s presence and support for Tinubu across the five South-East states.

The South-East structure will work alongside Senator Uche Ekwunife, who has been appointed Zonal Director under the Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring Directorate.

James Abiodun Faleke, who played a pivotal role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.

Faleke will work with zonal directors including Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.

Tinubu tasks team with victory

According to Onanuga’s statement, Tinubu charged members of the campaign council to work tirelessly to secure victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections.

The President also encouraged leaders of the various directorates to reach out to party members who were not formally listed and bring them into the campaign effort.

“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress. We are definitely out of the dark tunnel and are now at the cusp of reaping the benefits of a prosperous economy that will benefit all Nigerians,” Tinubu stated.

“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet—let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation. Let us soundly defeat all those forces who plan to take our country backwards.”

The constitution of the council marks a major step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with Yari taking charge of the national campaign machinery and Mbah playing a prominent role in driving the party’s South-East campaign.
