An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Enugu State, Hon. Anayo Edeh, has urged the people of the state to support Governor Peter Mbah’s re-election bid in 2027, saying Enugu is on a path to what he described as “irreversible development.”
Edeh made the call during a press briefing at his county home, Camp David in Onicha-Agu, Nkanu East Local Government Area on Monday, August 31, 2026, titled “Enugu 2027: Gov. Mbah Deserves Collective Support, Not Distractions.”
He said another four years under Mbah would sustain the administration’s development agenda and consolidate what he described as significant progress across key sectors of the state.
According to Edeh, Enugu has witnessed unprecedented development in education, job creation, healthcare, infrastructure, security and human capital development since Mbah assumed office.
“In the past three years, Enugu has witnessed unprecedented development in education, job creation, health, infrastructure, security and human capital,” Edeh said.
He cited the Smart Green Schools across the wards, the International Conference Centre, Enugu Air, bus terminals, a 300-room hotel within the International Conference Centre, the resuscitation of Niger Gas, new layouts for smart cities, road construction and 260 Smart Farms among projects he said had transformed the state.
Edeh also listed investments in healthcare, including Type-2 hospitals across the 260 wards, digitalisation of the state’s economy, civil service reforms and a new security architecture backed by modern equipment and surveillance drones.
He further cited the renovation of the Presidential Hotel, which he said had remained moribund for years under previous administrations.
“Mbah’s developmental strides are limitless and visible,” he said.
Edeh also expressed confidence in the governor’s ambition to grow Enugu’s economy from about $4 billion to $30 billion, saying the signs of economic transformation were already evident.
“The promise by Mbah to move Enugu’s economy from four billion United States dollars to thirty billion dollars has become achievable. The signs are everywhere,” he said.
He argued that Mbah’s record had made his re-election deserving of collective support, describing continuity as necessary for the realisation of what he called the “new Enugu of our dream.”
“It is in the light of the outstanding accomplishments of Mbah in all sectors that it has become morally binding for all to support him in the 2027 governorship election. It is, indeed, a desideratum for the new Enugu of our dream,” Edeh said.
‘Don’t Distract Mbah’
The APC chieftain, however, warned politicians seeking to challenge Mbah in the 2027 governorship election against what he described as efforts capable of distracting the administration from its development agenda.
He specifically appealed to Chiefs Chinyeaka Ohaa and Uche Nnaji, whom he identified as Nkanu sons seeking the governorship, to reconsider their positions.
“Those who want to constitute a clog in the wheel of progress under the guise of contesting the Enugu Governorship in 2027 against Mbah need to be told in very clear terms that they are embarking on a futile adventure that can only cause distractions,” he said.
“They can only cause a crack in the wall; they cannot fell the wall of progress which Mbah is erecting in Enugu.”
Edeh said Ohaa and Nnaji, both from Nkanu West, should reconsider challenging Mbah, who is from Nkanu East, describing such a contest among Nkanu sons as ill-advised.
“As Nkanu sons, Ohaa and Nnaji need to be counselled that a contest against their brother now is ill-advised, inappropriate and unnecessary. We need all hands on deck under Mbah to reposition Enugu. This is not the time to dissipate energy unnecessarily,” he said.
He called for a united front across Nkanuland in support of Mbah’s re-election.
“The entire Nkanuland ought to maintain a united front on the re-election of Mbah for continuity,” Edeh said.
Edeh also referenced the political history of Nkanu West, which produced former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, while arguing that Mbah’s emergence marked the first time an indigene of Nkanu East had become governor of Enugu State.
“Nkanu West produced former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani. Ohaa and Nnaji, who are from Nkanu West, need to be told that their contest against Mbah, their brother from Nkanu East, is reprehensible and vexatious,” he said.
“Mbah is the first Governor from Nkanu East since the creation of Enugu State. Any plot against him will be seen as an affront on the entire Nkanuland. This will be crushed.”
Beyond state politics, Edeh credited Mbah with increasing Enugu’s visibility at the national political level, saying the state had become a more influential player in mainstream Nigerian politics.
“Furthermore, the visibility which Enugu is enjoying today in national politics is as a result of Mbah’s influence. Enugu is no longer a spectator at the Centre. It is now a key actor in mainstream politics in Nigeria,” he said.
Edeh urged residents to remain focused on the state’s development trajectory and resist what he described as attempts by detractors to reverse the gains recorded under the present administration.
“The re-election of Mbah in 2027 is a task that must be done. Let the heathens stop raging and imagining vain things,” he said.
“Enugu is on the path of irreversible development. We cannot allow detractors to pull us back.”
