The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating the alleged existence of a non-existent Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has uncovered 12 organisations it described as “fake agencies” allegedly operating under the guise of legitimate government institutions.
The committee, which is probing the activities surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, said its preliminary findings established that the PFIPC was not lawfully created.
The lawmakers also described as fake a purported appointment letter allegedly issued to Adeyemi Adeniyi as Director-General of the council.
According to the committee, the findings have raised serious concerns over individuals and organisations allegedly presenting themselves as authentic government institutions to conduct activities and transactions.
As part of its investigation, the committee uncovered 12 other organisations allegedly operating as fake government agencies.
The investigation also revealed 58 bank accounts allegedly linked to Adeniyi, further deepening concerns about the activities of the organisations under investigation.
Among the organisations identified by the committee are the FCT Investment Promotion Council, FCT Investment Promotion Agency and Public-Private Partnership, the United Nations Youth Global Foundation and the Olubadan of Ibadan Foundation.
The committee said the discoveries underscored the need for greater scrutiny of organisations claiming to represent or operate on behalf of the Federal Government.
The lawmakers are expected to continue their investigation into the organisations, their activities and the individuals allegedly behind them.
