The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to forthwith upload and utilise the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), bringing to an end a dispute the party described as “administrative machinations.”
The National Leader of the NDC, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, disclosed this in a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, following the judgment delivered by the court presided over by Justice J. O. Abdulmalik.
According to Dickson, the NDC had approached the court to compel INEC to recognise and use the modified logo contained in the party’s constitution instead of the association logo with which it was originally registered.
He explained that the party’s first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting had approved the modified digital logo and forwarded it to INEC, which initially uploaded the logo before subsequently removing it without communicating any reason to the party.
Dickson said the NDC disagreed with the electoral commission’s decision to revert to the old association logo and eventually sought judicial intervention after allowing sufficient time for INEC to resolve the matter.
“We therefore commend the judiciary for its timely intervention and welcome the judgment directing INEC to forthwith upload and utilise our modified digital logo,” Dickson said.
He described the ruling as an affirmation of the party’s position and commended the judiciary for ensuring that the issue was resolved through due process.
The NDC leader also thanked members of the party, particularly its candidates, for their patience and understanding during the dispute.
He directed all party candidates and members to immediately begin using the constitutionally approved modified logo on campaign materials, including banners, posters and other publicity materials.
“I want to assure everyone that the party has experienced and strategic leaders who understand what we are doing. Therefore, nobody should panic,” Dickson said.
“Members are free to raise questions and concerns, but there is absolutely no reason for panic.”
Dickson acknowledged that some candidates and members might have already produced campaign materials bearing the old logo, expressing regret over any inconvenience caused by the change.
He noted, however, that both the old and modified logos retain the party’s two-finger victory sign, while urging candidates to transition to the constitutionally approved version.
“Candidates should now transition to the logo approved in our party’s constitution, which is the authentic party logo and, indeed, the one that is more widely recognised,” he said.
NDC Accuses INEC of ‘Administrative Machinations’
Dickson described the controversy surrounding the logo as part of what he called “administrative machinations” that the party had continued to confront, insisting that the NDC would not be intimidated by the challenges.
“We regard the challenges surrounding this matter as part of the administrative machinations we have continued to confront. But we want to assure our members that we are democratic fighters. We do not run away from battles,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to God for what he described as another judicial vindication of the party’s position.
“We thank God that the judiciary has once again vindicated our position,” Dickson said.
Following the judgment, he directed the party and all its candidates to henceforth use the constitutionally approved modified digital logo in all campaign and party-related materials.
Dickson said the NDC would issue a formal statement and undertake further publicity to guide members and candidates on the approved logo, while also sensitising the electorate.
“There is still time to do so,” he said.
He thanked party members, candidates and supporters for their steadfastness and urged them to remain focused as the NDC prepares for the 2027 general elections.
“Together, we remain focused in SERVICE. Together, we move forward.
“NDC all the way!” Dickson declared.
