The Ngwo Clan General Assembly has rejected the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and declared its support for Enugu State Governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The position was contained in a press release dated September 11, 2026, and signed by the President of the Ngwo Clan General Assembly, Hon. Barr. Kenneth Ani Kofi, which was made available to journalists in Enugu.
Ani Kofi accused the NDC of marginalising the Ngwo people politically and failing to recognise the clan’s historical contributions to the struggle for the creation and development of Enugu State.
He specifically expressed displeasure that several Ngwo sons and daughters who joined the NDC and purchased nomination forms to contest various elective positions were allegedly denied the opportunity to represent the party.
According to him, the situation was particularly disturbing because one of the Ngwo aspirants, whom he said won the NDC State House of Assembly primary for Udi South Constituency, was nevertheless not eventually fielded as the party’s candidate.
The Ngwo leader also invoked the political legacy of the late Chief C.C. Onoh, recalling his role in the struggle for the creation of Enugu State and questioning why, in his view, the NDC would subject Ngwo to political exclusion.
“The President of Ngwo Clan General Assembly wants to use this opportunity to let the general public know that his people have condemned in strong terms the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) marginalization and dichotomy towards their historical political background, remembering how their son, late Chief C.C. Onoh, fought for the creation of Enugu State,” the statement said.
Ani Kofi alleged that the NDC had adopted what he described as a “sectional political structure” in Enugu State, insisting that the clan had decided to reciprocate what it considered political marginalisation by rejecting the party.
“The party has shown great political dichotomy towards Ngwo Clan, and we have also resolved to reciprocate the same hatred towards the party,” he said.
He declared that the Ngwo Clan General Assembly had rejected the NDC and all its candidates, from the presidential level to councillorship, while advising the party against coming to campaign in Ngwo land.
“The President hereby rejects NDC and all its candidates from the presidency down to councillorship and affirms that all Ngwo sons and daughters across Enugu North, Enugu South and Udi Local Government Areas will not vote for NDC and that the party should not bother coming for a campaign in Ngwo land,” he stated.
In contrast, the Ngwo leadership endorsed Governor Mbah and several other candidates, including Distinguished Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Kelvin Chukwu, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, Dr. Festus Uzor, Dr. Okey Aneke, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, and Engr. Hyginus Agu, alongside other APC candidates across the various levels of government.
The statement said the endorsements were based on the belief that the APC had demonstrated greater commitment to “equity, justice, fairness and good governance” in the state.
“He said that APC is committed to inclusive governance, fairness, equity and justice, and we believe that effective representation requires leaders who listen to the people, respect diverse interests and promote development across the board,” Ani Kofi stated.
He consequently assured Governor Mbah of the support of the Ngwo people, pledging that the clan would mobilise voters for the APC, beginning with the forthcoming local government elections.
“The President therefore assures Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah that the good people of Ngwo will work hard and deliver APC in all elections, starting with the forthcoming Local Government elections,” he said.
The Ngwo Clan General Assembly president also praised Senator Osita Ngwu, representing Enugu West Senatorial District, for what he described as outstanding representation, particularly in the areas of road infrastructure, scholarships, empowerment and human-capacity development.
He equally commended the Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, citing what he described as achievements in health, youth empowerment, staff coordination, education, human-capital development, security and infrastructure.
Ani Kofi said Onoh’s performance had made his re-election “one of the easiest things to do,” arguing that the council chairman had performed beyond expectations.
The declaration effectively places the Ngwo Clan General Assembly behind the APC candidates as the political contest gathers momentum in Enugu State, while drawing a sharp line between the clan and the NDC over what its leadership described as alleged political marginalisation.
