The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Saidu Yahaya, has reportedly resigned from office amid concerns over the performance of the anti-graft agency.
Yahaya is said to have submitted his resignation letter on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following reported pressure from the Kano State Government over his leadership of the commission.
Although neither Yahaya nor the state government had formally announced his resignation as of Wednesday, September 16, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has already announced a new acting head for the commission.
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Social Media, Ibrahim Adam, disclosed the development in a post on his verified Facebook page, announcing the appointment of Barrister Hafsat Ada’u Kutama as acting chairperson of the PCACC.
“His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Barr. Hafsat Ada’u Kutama as the Acting Chairperson of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Kano State,” Adam said.
He added that Kutama, who previously served as Secretary of the commission, was expected to assume office as acting chairperson on Wednesday.
Yahaya’s reported resignation comes months after Governor Yusuf publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the commission under his leadership.
In July, the governor warned officials of the anti-corruption agency to either intensify their activities or leave office, accusing the commission of losing the momentum associated with the previous administration.
Yahaya was appointed chairman of the PCACC in August 2025 after the expiration of the tenure of the commission’s former chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado. His nomination was subsequently forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Before his appointment, Yahaya spent more than 18 years with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where he held various positions involving investigations and project tracking.
