Veteran Nigerian actor and one of the country’s most celebrated screen and stage performers, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.
Jacobs died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, according to a family announcement shared by his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son on social media.

The family described the acclaimed actor as the “Lion of Lufodo” in announcing his death, which occurred two months after he celebrated his 84th birthday.
“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR). 11/07/1942 – 16/09/2026,” the family announcement read.
The family appealed to members of the public, particularly bloggers and social media influencers, to respect their privacy as they mourn the death of the veteran actor.
“We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time.”
Jacobs, who was born on July 11, 1942, celebrated his 84th birthday on July 11, 2026.
His death marks the passing of one of the prominent figures whose career spanned stage, television and film, earning him recognition in Nigeria and internationally.
