Another Anambra native doctor, Ekene Igboekweze, popularly known as “Eke Hit,” has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Anambra State High Court under the state’s Homeland Security Law.
Igboekweze, a native of Okija, was arrested in February 2025 alongside fellow native doctors Onyebuchi Okocha, popularly known as Onyeze Jesus, and Akwa Okuko.
Eke Hit was prosecuted on a seven-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy to commit a felony, including kidnapping, obtaining by fraud through claims of possessing supernatural or spiritual powers, and promoting “Oke Ite” rituals.
The state had alleged that the rituals were connected with the fortification of criminals, gunmen and kidnappers, as well as the use of illicit ritual objects.
Unlike Onyeze Jesus, Eke Hit maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings and denied the allegations brought against him.
His trial was delayed by several adjournments as the prosecution and defence filed and adopted their respective written addresses.
The court eventually delivered judgment after the final written addresses were adopted, sentencing Eke Hit to six years’ imprisonment.
His conviction comes months after the court, on July 17, convicted another Anambra native doctor, Onyebuchi Okocha, alias Onyeze Jesus, under the same state Homeland Security Law.
