Popular Enugu State politician, Chief Ikechukwu Oloto, has been killed by unknown assailants inside his residence in the Odenigbo area of Nsukka Local Government Area.
Oloto, 53, popularly known as Okanga Moo, was reportedly attacked on Thursday evening, September 17, 2026, with his body later discovered in a pool of blood at his residence.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the killing on Friday, saying it had commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the politician’s death and identify those responsible.
According to the command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, police operatives received a report at about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday that Oloto had been found seriously injured at his residence.
“Police operatives promptly responded and found him with deep suspected machete cuts to his head and stomach,” Ndukwe said.
He said the victim was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
“He was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
“His remains were deposited at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” the police spokesman said.
Following the killing, the command said it had launched a manhunt for the assailant or assailants responsible for the attack.
Oloto, a prominent politician from Nsukka Local Government Area, was widely known in the area by his nickname, Okanga Moo.
The police said investigation was ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and bring those responsible for the politician’s death to justice.
