Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi has disowned a purported letter circulating on social media in his name and allegedly addressed to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe.
Obi, in a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, September 19, 2026, said the purported letter, which allegedly concerned political and financial matters in Anambra State, was fabricated and did not originate from him.
“My attention has been drawn to a fake letter circulating on social media, purportedly written by me to His Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, concerning political and financial matters in Anambra State,” Obi said.
Describing the document as an attempt to mislead the public, the former governor said it was “entirely false, malicious, and a fabrication by mischievous elements aimed at misleading the public.”
Obi further said the signature attached to the purported letter was forged, stressing that he had no connection with the document.
“Furthermore, the signature appended to the letter is completely forged,” he said.
He subsequently urged members of the public and media organisations to disregard the document and refrain from giving it credence.
“I urge the public and media to disregard this spurious publication,” Obi said.
The NDC presidential candidate said his attention remained focused on national issues, particularly development, accountability and the future of the country.
“My focus remains steadfastly on issues of national development, accountability, and building a better future for our people – never on cheap fabrications,” he said.
