The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), saying consultations with relevant stakeholders are ongoing to finalise the structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday, September 21, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq.
According to Director, the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have held several meetings with the party’s National Leader and other members of the leadership as part of efforts to conclude arrangements for the campaign council.
He said the party had agreed to give Obi and Kwankwaso the responsibility of nominating key officials of the campaign council in consultation with the NDC leadership.
Director said the positions to be nominated by the presidential and vice-presidential candidates include Director-General, Deputy Director-General (North), Campaign Spokesman, Deputy Spokesman, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director, among others.
He said the party leadership had given the two candidates “a free hand” to make the nominations in consultation with the party.
According to the statement, the Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director will work with the National Treasurer to manage campaign funds in accordance with the principles of transparency and accountability.
Director said the arrangement was necessary because the party would be responsible for rendering its campaign accounts to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the Electoral Act.
He disclosed that a complete organogram for the campaign structure had been developed since August and made available to Obi and Kwankwaso for their input, while nominations had also been received from stakeholders across the country.
“The party wishes to assure the public that as soon as we receive the inputs of our Presidential Candidate and his Vice, the NDC shall proceed to announce and inaugurate the same,” Director said.
He added that the party had also proposed a campaign timetable since August but was awaiting the conclusion of funding and fundraising arrangements to be spearheaded by the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
According to him, funds raised would be paid into the presidential campaign account and managed by officers nominated by Obi and Kwankwaso alongside the National Treasurer of the party.
The NDC spokesperson explained that the inauguration of the PCC, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed because of the presidential candidate’s travel schedule.
Director also urged NDC candidates at all levels to restrain their supporters and focus on the 2027 elections rather than internal disagreements.
“There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC,” he said.
He added: “Our candidates should keep their eyes on the ball and focus on winning.”
The party said it wanted all its candidates to win “resoundingly”, stressing that they were contesting under the NDC platform and not as independent candidates.
NDC Directs States, LGAs to Compile Polling Agents
The party also directed its state and local government chairmen to immediately convene meetings with candidates and relevant stakeholders to compile and harmonise lists of party agents for the forthcoming elections.
Director said the exercise would produce two categories of agents: those to serve during National Assembly elections and those to serve during governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
He said the lists would subsequently be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including Obi and Kwankwaso, before the agents undergo training.
The party directed that the exercise and submission of the final lists be completed within two weeks of the directive.
Director said the committee responsible for appointing the party agents is chaired by Comrade Babatunde Alli, Deputy National Chairman (South), with Vin Martin Ilo as Secretary.
Dr Yunusa Tanko, Nafiu Dankura and the National Vice Chairmen representing the six geopolitical zones are also members of the committee.
