Late Ugwu Chinyere Susan Rosemary

The family of Miss Ugwu Chinyere Susan Rosemary, popularly known as It Chinny Susan Rosemary or ITCHINNYS Event Planner, has raised fresh questions over the circumstances surrounding her death in Enugu, demanding a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the case.

The demand was made on Thursday, October 1, 2026, by her immediate elder sister, Mrs Ugwu Kenechi Modesta Maryam, who said she was speaking out because her younger sister could no longer speak for herself.

“My name is MRS UGWU KENECHI MODESTA MARYAM and I am the immediate elder sister of MISS UGWU CHINYERE SUSAN ROSEMARY, popularly known as It Chinny Susan Rosemary or ITCHINNYS Event Planner,” she said.

“The young lady whose tragic death has been circulating across social media is my baby sister. The beautiful young woman you see in this picture was not only beautiful, she was a hardworking, ambitious and determined young woman. She was a hustler who worked hard to build a life for herself.”

Maryam said the family had always been raised to work hard and fend for themselves, noting that they never imagined Chinyere would become known across Nigeria because of what she described as such a painful circumstance.

“Those who know me and my sisters, those who grew up with us, and those who know our family understand that we were raised to work hard and fend for ourselves. Before this tragedy, our family had no idea that my sister would become known across Nigeria because of such a painful circumstance,” she said.

She said the family decided to speak publicly because of various accounts circulating on social media about Chinyere’s death, particularly reports alleging that she was killed because of HIV.

“There have been reports circulating that she was killed because of HIV. As her family, we are questioning that account and asking the appropriate authorities and the public not to assume that this is the complete story until the investigation establishes the facts,” she said.

Maryam also recounted an interview involving the suspect which she said she personally witnessed the previous day in the presence of the Commissioner of Police, her immediate younger brother, her parents and an aunt who is also a police officer.

“Yesterday, in the presence of the Commissioner of Police, my immediate younger brother, my mother, my father and my aunt, who is also a police officer, I personally witnessed an interview involving the suspect,” she said.

“What we heard raised even more questions for our family.”

According to Maryam, the suspect initially spoke about using a pestle to attack Chinyere but allegedly gave a different account when questioned about some of the injuries reportedly found on her body.

“According to the account we heard, the suspect initially spoke about using a pestle to attack my sister. However, when questioned about some of the injuries, including injuries to her head and neck, he reportedly gave a different account and mentioned using a machete,” she said.

But the most troubling question for the family, she said, concerns the whereabouts of one of Chinyere’s wrists.

“As a family, we need answers.

“What exactly happened to my sister?

“What caused the injuries on her body?

“What happened to her neck and the back of her head?

“What was actually used to inflict those injuries?

“Why was her body allegedly kept inside a toilet within the apartment?

“And what is the explanation for the items reportedly found in the apartment, including a calabash, candles and red cloth/rope?

“Where is one of my sister’s wrists?” she asked.

Maryam stressed that the questions raised by the family should not be interpreted as conclusions about what happened, insisting that the circumstances surrounding Chinyere’s death must be established through evidence and proper investigation.

“These are not conclusions from me. They are questions that require proper investigation and evidence,” she said.

She said she was deliberately choosing her words because the matter had become a criminal investigation and warned against allowing social media speculation to replace the work of investigators, medical professionals and the courts.

“I am deliberately choosing my words because I understand that this matter is now a criminal investigation, and I do not want social media speculation to replace the work of the police, medical professionals and the courts,” she said.

“But I also cannot remain silent.”

Describing her late sister as a daughter, sister and friend who had dreams and plans for the future, Maryam said Chinyere deserved to have the circumstances surrounding her death properly established.

“My sister was someone’s daughter. She was someone’s sister. She was someone’s friend. She had dreams, plans and a future,” she said.

“Whatever the circumstances surrounding her death, she deserves to have the truth established.”

The bereaved sister also spoke about the speed at which information spreads on social media, saying the tragedy had given her a deeper appreciation of the need for caution when consuming information online.

“This experience has also taught me a painful lesson about social media. Before this happened to my family, I understood how quickly information spreads online. But now that it has happened to me personally, I understand even more deeply why people must be careful about believing everything they see or hear online,” she said.

She appealed to Nigerians, journalists, bloggers, human rights advocates, lawyers and responsible social media users to help ensure that her sister’s death was not reduced to unverified claims.

“I am therefore appealing to the good people of Nigeria, journalists, bloggers, human rights advocates, lawyers, responsible social media users and everyone who believes in justice,” Maryam said.

“Please do not allow my sister’s story to be reduced to an unverified headline.

“Please help us demand a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation.”

Maryam further appealed to anyone with genuine information or evidence that could assist the investigation to preserve and submit such material to the family or appropriate authorities.

“If you have genuine information, evidence, photographs, videos or credible material that may assist the investigation, please preserve it and share it with the family or the appropriate authorities,” she said.

“We are not asking anyone to take the law into their own hands.

“We are asking for truth, due process and justice.”

She said Chinyere’s death had left her parents devastated and the entire family heartbroken.

“My heart is broken. My parents are devastated. A family has lost a daughter, a sister and a loved one,” she said.

“Ugwu Chinyere Susan Rosemary, you can no longer speak for yourself, but your family will not stop speaking for you, Maryam Kenechi Mama Kuro will not stop.”

Maryam vowed that the family would continue to pursue the matter through lawful channels while seeking answers over the circumstances surrounding Chinyere’s death.

“We will continue to seek the truth through the proper channels.

“JUSTICE FOR UGWU CHINYERE ROSEMARY SUSAN.

“JUSTICE FOR SUZY MONEY.

“May God grant my family strength and may the truth prevail.”
