Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited (EEDL), a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), has assured electricity consumers in Ebonyi State of improved and more efficient service delivery.
The assurance was given by the Managing Director of EEDL, Engr. Nnamdi Chuka-Nwosu, on Monday, October 5, 2026, during activities marking the 2026 Customer Service Week at the company’s office opposite the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

The Customer Service Week, celebrated globally, has the theme, “The Extra Mile,” with the event attended by management and staff of the company.
Nwosu said the week provided an opportunity for the company to appreciate both its external and internal customers while identifying areas requiring improvement in service delivery.
He explained that external customers include electricity consumers and members of the public who approach the company with complaints or concerns over electricity supply, while internal customers comprise employees whose efforts are critical to delivering quality service.
According to him, EEDL would use the week to recognise and reward outstanding staff while encouraging others facing challenges to improve their performance.
He said the company would also engage directly with customers to identify and resolve concerns, particularly those relating to billing and network challenges.
Nwosu said the company had recorded a significant reduction in protests and other complaints since he assumed office, attributing the development to efforts by the management to address customers’ concerns.
“Before I took over, we had serious cases of assault by customers, protests and all. But I think we’re doing a good job and all forms of protest has drastically reduced. We’ve been able to resolve a lot of cases.
“Most of our customers can now testify and say, yes, there is a form of change that has come. That’s all we want to drive home.”
He added: “We want to make sure we have a state where every customer is happy. Though we can’t satisfy everybody. But at least let’s make that impact. If we have 95 to 98% of our customers happy, I think we’re getting somewhere.”
“Our dream is to have a company where the customers appreciate what we do and they’re happy with our services, both the supply, the relationship management, everything is what we’re going to talk about today,” the EEDL boss stated.
The Managing Director, however, raised concerns over the harassment of field officers by some customers while carrying out their duties, urging staff to maintain professionalism and exercise caution, particularly in volatile areas.
He appealed to customers to refrain from assaulting, threatening or holding electricity workers hostage, stressing that disagreements and complaints should be resolved through peaceful and established communication channels.
“During this Customer Service Week, we will also emphasise the need for our field officers to demonstrate the highest level of maturity and professionalism when dealing with customers regardless of who is right,” Nwosu said.
He also expressed concern over the vandalism of EEDL facilities, including high-tension lines and other critical electricity infrastructure, noting that the problem was not peculiar to Ebonyi State but occurred in different parts of the country.
Nwosu urged host communities to remain vigilant and protect electricity infrastructure in their areas, stressing that the company could not independently secure all its substations.
He said EEDL had been engaging communities and other stakeholders across the state to encourage them to take ownership of and safeguard electricity facilities located in their areas.
The EEDL Managing Director assured customers that the company would continue working towards improved, stable and reliable electricity supply.
He added that, in partnership with the Ebonyi State Government, EEDL would contribute to the state’s economic development through improved electricity supply, which he said would attract industries, boost business activities and increase revenue generation.
Also speaking, the Chief Commercial Officer of EEDL, Mr. Cyprian Nwankwegu, described the relationship between the company’s management, staff and external customers as cordial.
Nwankwegu said the reduction in complaints and protests previously experienced by the company was evidence of the improved relationship between EEDL and its customers.
“An empirical evidence of the cordial relationship existing between us and our customers is shown in the reduction of complaints and protests witnessed previously. A lot is being done to ensure customer satisfaction,” he said.
He said the company’s On-the-Spot Bill Reconciliation exercise, introduced at the beginning of the current billing cycle, had further strengthened its relationship with customers.
“The implementation of our On-the-Spot Bill Reconciliation exercise which we started since the commencement of this cycle has effectively enhanced our relationship with the customers. The customers can now attest to the transparency and very fair billing system,” Nwankwegu stated.
He added: “As a company, we make sure that we abide by the regulatory provision as it concerns the billing of our customers.”
Nwankwegu further disclosed that EEDL would take its customer service campaign a step further with another On-the-Spot Complaints Resolution Exercise scheduled for October 8 and 9, 2026.
He urged customers with unresolved complaints or grievances to take advantage of the exercise to have their issues promptly addressed and resolved.
