Hosanna Estate

Hosana Estate, a new residential development in Ibagwa Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been officially commissioned, with the Enugu State Government commending Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd. for its investment in the state’s housing sector.

The estate was commissioned on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, in an event attended by government officials, community leaders, investors and other stakeholders, with the state government describing the project as a reflection of the growing private-sector investment in Enugu’s urban and housing development.

The Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, who represented Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah at the commissioning, praised Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd. and other investors for committing resources to the state, saying such investments were supporting the administration’s drive to transform Enugu from a largely civil-service-oriented state into a viable and vibrant city.

“I want to thank Powell and others who have invested in Enugu. What you’ve done is encouraging our aggressive quest to move Enugu State from the docile civil service state to a viable city,” Ossai said.

He said the project demonstrated the resilience and determination of the Mbah administration to make Enugu better than it was inherited.

“This assignment is dear to us and speaks to resilience and faith that all of us that reside in Enugu State can see. When we came into office, we resolved to make Enugu State better than we met it,” he said.

Ossai acknowledged that some of the government’s reforms and development decisions had attracted criticism, but appealed to residents to understand the long-term vision behind the administration’s policies.

“In doing this, so many persons were offended and we appeal with you all to understand us,” he said.

The Deputy Governor further assured investors of the state government’s commitment to providing security and expanding infrastructure to create an enabling environment for businesses and residential developments to thrive.

“As government, our primary objective is to provide security for the people and I’m delighted with what I’ve seen about the estate,” he said, while encouraging the investors to cooperate with the estate management to ensure the effective management of the development.

“On our part, we’ll keep expanding infrastructure and for all those we’ve not attended to, do not be disappointed, we’re already on that part and we’re progressing geometrically,” Ossai added.

“I thank all the investors and assure you that as a government, we’ll continue to provide security for the state,” he stated.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd., Architect Chibuike Onyekachi, described the completion of Hosana Estate as a major milestone for the company and a demonstration of what could be achieved through vision, perseverance, partnership and purpose.

“Today is not simply about commissioning another housing project. It is a celebration of vision, perseverance, partnership and the power of purpose,” Onyekachi said.

He attributed the successful completion of the project to the grace of God and the collective efforts of individuals and organisations that contributed to bringing the development to reality.

“Above all, we acknowledge that it is by the grace of Almighty God that we have reached this milestone. What we are witnessing today is a testament to His faithfulness and to the collective efforts of everyone who contributed, in one way or another, to bringing this vision to reality,” he said.

Onyekachi, on behalf of the Board, Management and entire team of Powell Homes and Shelters, appreciated Governor Mbah, represented by Deputy Governor Ossai, for honouring the commissioning of the estate.

He explained that Powell Homes and Shelters viewed housing as more than the construction of buildings, stressing that decent housing provides security, dignity and stability for families while contributing to the development of productive communities.

“At Powell Homes and Shelter, we believe that housing is more than bricks, concrete and physical structures.

“A home represents security. A home represents dignity. A home provides stability for families. And access to decent housing contributes significantly to the development of healthy, productive and prosperous communities,” he said.

According to him, Hosana Estate was conceived as a planned and functional community designed to meet the needs of modern families rather than simply as a collection of residential buildings.

He said the estate features internal roads, effective drainage, electricity infrastructure and recreational facilities, including a synthetic football pitch and children’s playground.

“Our objective is to demonstrate that housing developments can be secure, functional, aesthetically pleasing and sustainable, while remaining responsive to the realities of the people we serve,” Onyekachi stated.

The Powell Homes and Shelters MD also acknowledged Nigeria’s housing deficit and the financial challenges confronting many families, saying the company was determined to make homeownership more accessible to Nigerians.

“As an organisation, we do not want homeownership to remain an aspiration that is beyond the reach of the average Nigerian,” he said.

He added that Powell Homes and Shelters would continue to develop quality homes at affordable and accessible price points while exploring innovative financing models, strategic partnerships and appropriate housing solutions to enable more Nigerians, families and members of the organised private sector to own homes.

Onyekachi said the commissioning of Hosana Estate marked the beginning of another phase in the company’s expansion rather than the end of its journey.

“While today marks the successful completion and commissioning of Hosana Estate, our journey does not end here. If anything, this milestone strengthens our resolve to do more,” he said.

“Powell Homes and Shelter is committed to continuing to build more homes, develop more communities and expand access to decent housing—not only in Enugu but in other parts of Nigeria where the need exists,” he added.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Beloved-Dan Anike, commended Powell Homes and Shelters for choosing Ibagwa Nike for the development, noting that the ongoing dualisation of the road had positioned the area as an emerging urban centre.

Anike said Powell Homes had “blazed the trail” by investing in what he described as a future goldmine, adding that the local government was committed to supporting Governor Mbah’s development agenda.

Hosana Estate“In Enugu East, we’re already seeing the future with the governor and we’ll support him in doing this,” he said.

He added that developments such as Hosana Estate would contribute to reducing the housing deficit in Nigeria and Enugu State.

The traditional ruler of Ibagwa Nike, His Royal Highness, Igwe Emma Ugwu, also commended Powell Homes and Shelters for bringing the project to the community, saying the development was consistent with the state government’s broader vision.

“I’m happy that Ibagwa Nike understands the principle and process of the government,” Igwe Ugwu said.

He recalled that when members of the community approached him for clarification about the project, he assured them that it aligned with the developmental agenda of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

“When my people came to my palace to make enquiries about the project, I assured them that it aligns with the developmental initiative of His Excellency, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah,” he stated.

Igwe Ugwu further thanked the Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd. for choosing Ibagwa Nike as the location for the estate.

The commissioning of Hosana Estate is a reflection the growing collaboration between government and private investors in addressing Enugu’s housing needs, while Powell Homes and Shelters has reaffirmed its intention to replicate its housing development efforts in other parts of Enugu and Nigeria.
