The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, identified as John Paul, over alleged currency counterfeiting in Obikabia community, Aba, recovering seven bundles of counterfeit ₦200 notes.
The command disclosed this in a press release dated Friday, October 9, 2026, signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi.

According to the statement, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Obikabia following actionable intelligence that some individuals were allegedly involved in producing counterfeit Nigerian currency.
The operation led to the arrest of John Paul and the recovery of seven bundles of suspected counterfeit ₦200 notes, which the police said had been taken into custody as exhibits.
The command said investigations were ongoing, while efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest other members of the suspected counterfeiting syndicate who fled during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property across Abia State.
He stressed that the command would not allow criminal elements to operate freely in the state, declaring that “Abia State will remain a no-go area for criminals and their nefarious activities.”
The police urged residents to continue providing actionable information that could assist security operatives in identifying and dismantling criminal networks across the state.
