The Enugu State Government has placed more than 300 young professionals across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for 12 months under the Nigerian Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP), providing technical support to public institutions while equipping the fellows with practical workplace experience.

The Enugu MSME & Startup Agency, also known as the Enugu SME Center, which spearheads the programme in the state, disclosed this in a statement highlighting the initiative’s contribution to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s human capital development agenda.

According to the agency, the fellows supported government institutions in key areas, including data management, research, technology, administration and programme delivery, while developing the practical skills and professional experience required to thrive in the workplace.

The Enugu SME Center said the initiative goes beyond employment opportunities by strengthening the capacity of MDAs and helping young professionals build the skills needed for meaningful careers.

“At the heart of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s transformation agenda is a simple but powerful principle: our greatest investment must be in our people,” the agency stated.

It explained that the programme reflects the governor’s broader human capital development agenda by creating opportunities for young people to learn, contribute to public service and improve their prospects of securing future employment.

The agency further noted that the fellows’ contributions to technical and administrative functions had provided additional capacity to government institutions, supporting their operations and efforts to improve service delivery.

Describing the initiative as a model that combines youth empowerment with institutional development, the Enugu SME Center said the programme enables young people to gain valuable work experience while helping public institutions deliver on their responsibilities.

“300+ Fellows. 12 months of practical experience. Stronger MDAs. A stronger Enugu workforce,” the agency stated, summarising the programme’s objectives and impact.
