Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the rising cost of living and worsening insecurity in Nigeria, declaring that he would work to make life affordable and restore the safety Nigerians deserve.
Atiku made the remarks in a video published on his X account on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in which he highlighted the struggles of families, pensioners and young Nigerians grappling with economic hardship and insecurity.

“My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying,” Atiku said, describing a situation in which parents worry about feeding their children, while pensioners are forced to choose between buying food and purchasing medicines.
He also lamented the financial pressures facing young Nigerians, saying that despite working hard, many struggle to meet basic needs as transport fares, rent and other living expenses consume their earnings.
Atiku further raised concerns about insecurity across the country, noting that many families live in fear of kidnapping and attacks and remain uncertain whether their loved ones will return home safely.
“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit,” he said.
The former vice president urged eligible Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing them as essential instruments for citizens to express their choices and demand political change through the ballot.
“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he stated.
Taking a direct swipe at Tinubu’s administration, Atiku declared: “Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves.”
He called on Nigerians across generations to unite behind his vision of a country where families can live safely, afford basic necessities and enjoy dignity and hope.
“Let us stand together, across generations, and vote for a Nigeria where every family can live with dignity, safety and hope,” Atiku said.
