The Democracy Alliance (DA) has urged politicians contesting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial tickets in Imo West and Imo North to resolve their differences and stop creating tension in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group described the dispute surrounding the senatorial primaries in the two districts as a “self-inflicted family problem” and urged the interested politicians to take responsibility for resolving it rather than allowing the controversy to undermine the party’s electoral preparations.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and jointly signed by its Chairman, Dr. Ejiro Ernest, and Secretary, Mr. Dare Adu, the group also cautioned the political actors against dragging the name of APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Ben Nwoye, into the dispute.

According to the group, Nwoye’s current priority is mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Whatever is happening in Imo State is a self-inflicted family problem and the name of the Deputy national chairman DNC (South) Dr. Nwoye shouldn’t be on their lips, and they should seek for ways to manage their crisis,” the statement insisted.

The group called on the political actors in Imo West and Imo North to set aside their differences and focus on securing electoral victories for the APC.

“We are using this medium to call on the key actors in this Imo West and North to clean up their mess and plan on how to deliver votes for the APC,” it stated.

Democracy Alliance maintained that Nwoye was occupied with his national responsibilities and political mobilisation across southern Nigeria in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid and other APC candidates.

The group also challenged those behind the allegations against the party official to come forward openly instead of operating through what it described as a pseudo group.

“The sponsors of the media onslaught should be bold enough to come out from hiding and face Nwoye who roundly defeated them in the political contest and not hide under a pseudo group to drag his name into what he knows nothing about,” the statement added.

The reaction followed a petition by the Justice and Democracy Network to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, alleging manipulation of party and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) documents relating to the senatorial primaries in Imo State, particularly in Imo West and Imo North.

The allegations contained in the petition have not been established as proven wrongdoing. The controversy centres on the disputed senatorial primaries and questions surrounding the authenticity of the documents in question.

Democracy Alliance argued that the disagreement should be addressed by the politicians directly involved rather than allowed to escalate into a wider political crisis capable of distracting the APC from its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The group further warned that dragging Nwoye into petitions relating to the dispute, which it said was already before the relevant authorities, amounted to an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

It said such an attempt would be resisted, insisting that the politicians involved should concentrate on resolving the crisis and delivering votes for the APC in the forthcoming elections.
