The organisation, in a condolence statement signed by its Global Publicity Secretary, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, said the renowned educationist, philanthropist and entrepreneur died in the United States of America at the age of 63.
Ohanaeze, speaking on behalf of the Igbo nation, described Ibe as a proud and patriotic son of Igboland whose commitment to his people was demonstrated through concrete investments in education, cultural preservation and intellectual development.
It said the establishment of the Centre for Igbo Renaissance at Gregory University reflected his conviction that the Igbo people must preserve their cultural heritage, deepen their knowledge and take charge of their collective destiny.
The organisation also recalled his service as Chairman of the 2018 Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Igbo Day Central Planning Committee in Owerri, describing his leadership of the assignment as evidence of his organisational ability, intellect and commitment to Igbo unity.
According to the statement, Ibe brought exceptional experience and passion to the assignment, helping to deliver an Igbo Day celebration that remains memorable in the history of the organisation.
President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta Mbata, described the death of the university founder as a profound loss to Ndigbo and Nigeria, noting that his vision and enduring investments in education and the Igbo cause would continue to inspire generations.

Ohanaeze extended its heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s immediate family, the management, staff and students of Gregory University, his associates and the people of Uturu, while praying to God to grant them the strength to bear the loss.
The statement added that although Ibe had passed away, his contributions to education, philanthropy and the advancement of Ndigbo would remain indelible.
“Though Prof. Ibe has departed, his contributions to education, philanthropy and the advancement of Ndigbo will endure. He has left footprints that time cannot erase,” the organisation said.
Ohanaeze prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
