Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has clarified that his administration’s decision to waive fees paid by commercial tricycle operators applies only to the ₦350 charge payable to the state government, while levies collected by their unions and local governments remain in force.

Mbah made the clarification during the ongoing Meet the Candidates (Special Town Hall) at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu, following questions from participants seeking to understand the scope of his announcement at a rally on Saturday.

The governor explained that the waiver did not cover payments owed to tricycle operators’ unions or local government authorities, stressing that those obligations would continue.

According to Mbah, the ₦350 state government charge has been waived, but operators are still required to pay the applicable fees due to their unions and local governments.

The clarification comes amid confusion over the governor’s earlier announcement, with the latest explanation distinguishing between the state government charge and other payments made by commercial tricycle operators.

The move is part of the administration’s efforts to address concerns surrounding charges imposed on residents and operators across the state.
