The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to make the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election available online following concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders over access to the register.

The commission disclosed this in a press statement dated Monday, October 26, 2026, signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC).

INEC said the preliminary register would be accessible through its online platform, display.inecnigeria.org, providing an additional channel for voters and other stakeholders to inspect the register beyond the physical display already conducted nationwide.

The commission explained that the physical display took place at Registration Areas across the country from October 9 to 15, 2026, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The exercise allowed registered voters to verify their personal details and submit claims and objections as provided by law.

According to INEC, the decision to publish the preliminary register online followed concerns about the need to expand public access to the document.

“Accordingly, and in furtherance of its commitment to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process, the Commission has decided to make available on its online platform display.inecnigeria.org the same Preliminary Register of Voters earlier displayed at the Registration Areas,” the statement read.

The commission said the online publication was intended to complement the physical exercise and enable wider access to the register.

INEC added that it was continuing to process claims and objections arising from the display exercise in preparation for the certification and publication of the final register of voters.

The final register is scheduled for publication on December 15, 2026, according to the statement.

The electoral body appreciated Nigerians and other stakeholders for their continued interest and engagement, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability and the implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026, as it prepares for the 2027 general election.
