The management of Amadeo Event Centre, Enugu, has accused the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) of allegedly using a health-related professional association to secure a booking at its facility before attempting to convert the event into a political gathering, claiming that the ensuing controversy was used to blackmail its management.
In a press release dated Thursday, October 29, 2026, the management said Dr Sabastine Chuks Ezeh, Registrar of the Nigeria Institute of Healthcare Givers and Medical Social Work Practitioners, booked the facility on October 7 for a “National Meeting and Conference” scheduled for October 15.
According to the statement, Dr Ezeh submitted a letter titled “LETTER OF CANCELLATION AND REQUEST FOR REFUND” on October 13, seeking to cancel the booking and recover the deposit. The management said he later withdrew the request, explaining that the association intended to postpone the event rather than cancel it.
The facility disclosed that the client eventually confirmed October 29 as the new date on October 23, with arrangements made for decoration to begin on Wednesday, October 28.
However, the management alleged that the materials brought to the venue on the morning of October 28 were intended for a political party rather than the association identified in the booking agreement.
“This clearly violated the contract for use of the place that we signed with the Client,” the statement said.
The management explained that Clause 17 of its terms and conditions empowered it to stop activities, meetings or events that failed to comply with the agreed terms or applicable regulatory requirements. It said the decision to rescind the client’s right to use the facility followed the alleged breach of the booking agreement.
The statement further claimed that Enugu State NDC officials and candidates arrived at the premises with security details after the cancellation notice was issued, leaving management surprised by what it described as a change from an association conference to an NDC political rally.
“Despite the contractual violation, we allowed the event to proceed to forestall a breach of peace, after the organizers informed us it would now be used as a youth town hall meeting with Mr. Peter Obi,” the management stated.
Amadeo insisted that no political party had booked its facility for October 29, maintaining that the only reservation for that date was made by the Nigeria Institute of Healthcare Givers and Medical Social Work Practitioners for a national meeting and conference.
The management also denied claims that it sought police intervention to stop the gathering, saying the officers seen in viral videos were escorts accompanying political aspirants who arrived at the venue after receiving the cancellation notice.
It further denied any involvement by the Enugu State Government, insisting that the dispute was strictly contractual and that no government official had issued instructions concerning the event.
“At no point was the Enugu State Government (ENSG) part of this conversation,” the statement said, adding that the controversy had been distorted and viewed through a partisan lens because of the political season.
The management maintained that Amadeo Event Centre was a non-partisan facility whose policy was to decline bookings for political purposes. It reaffirmed its commitment to hosting peaceful and lawful academic, social, religious and corporate gatherings.
