Indications have emerged that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) may suspend a warning strike it began over the delay in the implementation of a new national minimum wage.

The Nation reports that the organised labour may call off the strike today, Sunday, September 30, following the intervention of the presidency through the office of the chief of staff to the president, Abba Kyari.

At a meeting in presidential villa, the Kyari was said to have assured a delegation led by president of NLC, Ayuba Wabba, that President Buhari will address the concerns of labour upon his return to the country from the United Nations General Assembly. He then appealed to labour movement to suspend the strike immediately.

But NLC president, Wabba, has said that the decision to suspend the strike does not rest entirely on the National Administrative Council (NAC) of the NLC, adding that other organs of both NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) were involved.

The various organs of organised labour are said to have met to review the government position and may reach a decision to suspend the action soon.
