A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, November 15, declared that though President Muhammadu Buhari cannot legally double as the minister of petroleum resources, Ibe Kachikwu’s appointment had absolved him.

The court’s decision in the suit filed in 2017, was revealed by Olisa Agbakoba, a Nigerian Bar Association (SAN), in a statement he released on Friday, November 16.

Agbakoba, who reportedly filed the suit, had urged the court to restrain Buhari from holding the office of the minister of petroleum resources.

Giving details of the court ruling, Agbakoba said the court ruled that Buhari did not violate section 138 of the constitution because he was not directly in charge of the petroleum ministry’s day-to-day running.
