The National President, Eastern Region Assembly (ERA), Hon. Ejike Ikezuagu has praised Nzuko Umunna and Aka Ikenga for organising the event tagged “Handshake Across Nigeria Summit” in Lagos (Nigeria Beyond Oil) where the candidates of different political parties were invited to have a “chat show” on the issues bothering the country, especially the issue of restructuring the country.

Hon. Ejike Ikezuagu said from his office in London that, the chat show organised by the groups is a “right step in the right direction” for the country. It is a “stepping stone” towards the good things about to be happening in Nigeria.

On a phone conversation with Hon. Ikezuagu when Ogene Ndigbo Newspaper placed a call in his Plumstead office in London UK, he said, “the issue is no more if the country will be restructured or not, but which kind of restructuring do the Nigerians need now”. He expressed optimism that the country will go for the best one. He described the political upheavals in the country as “very challenging”, especially to the presidential candidates of the different political parties. He said the candidates should go back to their drawing board to come out with the best kind of restructuring any of them can offer. The kind of restructuring any of them can offer will be the determining factor if the electorate will elect him or not.

When asked if the ERA has any form of restructuring prepared as a document for the country, he said yes. He further said, they had invited Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and candidates of different political parties to come to London to give us and Nigerians more insight on which kind of restructuring each of them can offer to Nigerians.

He maintained that their sitting together to discuss about restructuring with the candidates will not be just a “chat show”, as usual, but to have an “Agreed Written Document” (AWD) with them. We need an agreement written and signed by the both parties.

He sent a good will message to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo President, Chief Nnia Nwodo, Afanifere Chieftain, Ayo Adebanjoke, and Professor Wole Soyinka for speaking well at the occasion.

In his remarks, he said Nigeria has been in a political and economic trauma for decades, allowing the wrong people, using wrong approaches in solving the Nigerian problems, which brought Nigeria where it is today. He said, we can’t be using the same approach at all times and expecting to have a different result.

He said, ERA as a socio-political bloc for the people of the old eastern region has the solution to solve the Nigerian problem for the benefit of all the Nigerians and requested Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to visit London to meet the group and Nigerians in the UK for a written and signed agreement.

He said if Atiku Abubakar is serious over his restructuring clamour, he should visit London to meet with the ERA for a proper discussion that may yield positive result, the ERA National President said.
