…We’re investigating the group – PPRO

CALABAR— The Cross River State Police Command has denied knowledge of a speculated report of a supposed clash between Fulani herdsmen and members of the Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, at Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.

Our correspondent had reported yesterday that unconfirmed reports from members of the pro-Biafra group had circulated widely about a supposed confrontation with herdsmen culminating to the killing of two herders and twenty cows.

But speaking on FAD FM Calabar as a guest during the morning presentation, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo denied knowledge of the incident, saying “that cannot be true.”

Ugbo said security agencies arrived in time when information from the villagers came, commending his men for averting conflict.

He added that his men recovered three cutlasses and a gallon of fuel when they flee, urging the public to disregard the rumour of the said attack.

A caller by name Ndifreke Itoro drew the attention of the State Command to previous incident in Bakassi where soldiers arrested members of the group involved in militancy, urging the Commissioner to arrest them with immediate effect.

Other opinions justified the action, appealing to the government to protect its people from herders or situation might escalate in future.

Ugbo said the Police is currently investigating the group hence no arrest was successfully carried out yesterday, urging natives of Odukpani to go about their normal businesses.
