…fails to give a date for the reopening of the airport.

The Honourable Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has reiterated that the closure of the Enugu airport will be for a very short time.

Senator Sirika made this remark in Abuja when he received in audience, members of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Senator Sirika said, “It is never the intention of government to make things difficult for people. The closure of the airport is to ensure that it is safe for Nigerians to continue to use without any fear. It is important for airline operators to be comfortable with the airport and its facilities. These are the reasons for which the airport will undergo a shutdown for a small period.”

The Minister said he was humbled by the visit of the association, adding that he was also impressed by the resolve of the different groups in the industry to come together under one umbrella, which he noted, was best for the industry.

Speaking further, Senator Sirika advised the body to get involved in on going review of the Aviation Act at the National Assembly by making themselves available and voicing their concerns and wishes during the public hearing.

The Aviation Minister further informed that he would soon be having a meeting with governors in the Southeast with a view to ameliorating the inconveniences that passengers whose flights will be directed to Port Harcourt, Owerri and Asaba Airports will face.

On the 2020 budget, Honourable Sirika also noted that if the 2019 budget is quickly passed, Kano terminal building will be delivered in 2019, while Lagos would be delivered towards the end of February 2020.

The Minister assured the visitors that his doors will always remain open for them to come with their constructive ideas and contributions that will move the industry forward.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Nogie Meggison said that the purpose of the courtesy visit was to congratulate the Honourable Minister on his reappointment as Minister of Aviation and pledged the organization’s loyalty, solidarity and support, adding that they had absolute confidence in the Minister’s steeling qualities and ability to move the aviation industry forward.
