The Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure as a follow-up to her lass press parley (where they called for members of the public to submit report on any failed contract in the state within the last five years) stressed that their action isn’t against any contractor in the state.
The Chairman of the committee Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze frowned at the situation were some media houses quoted them out of context and went ahead to give the name of some contractors which wasn’t part of what they said.
“You may recall that the last time we met, we never mentioned the name of any contractor. what we do in this House of Assembly is an objective oversight. We don’t do this targeting any individual or contracting firms.
“We do an overall objective oversight, therefore, we can’t indict anyone when we haven’t carried out our own function (constitution empowered oversight). If we’re going to indict anyone, it’s going to be after our findings through a painstaking oversight function.”
The member representing Ezeagu Constituency went on to state that even their finding isn’t the final as their findings is transmitted to the “committee of the whole” and that’s where their findings will be debated and a conclusion reached if anyone is guilty of not.
Hon. Obieze who addressed the press alongside other members of the committee on the 17th of December, 2019 emphasized that: “We never at any point mentioned the name of any contractor(s) neither have we given any contractor a clean bill of health. But if you were given any job by the state government that’s failing before the time on your contract document, you will be invited and you will explain why the job is failing.
“We invited you today to set the records straight and so far, we do not have any problem with Ferotex company as a matter of fact, they came out top in some of our past oversight functions. We are yet to start the new set of oversight function and we will make our findings public irrespective of who is involved, the person will be exposed and the company will be blacklisted and we will transmit our findings to the executive too,” he concluded.
