The Youth Wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, on Thursday urged residents of Imo, especially youths, to remain calm over the Supreme Court judgment on governorship election in the state.

The apex court had in a unanimous seven-panel judgment on Tuesday quashed the election of Chief Emeka Ihedioha, of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as governor of Imo and declared Gov. Hope Uzodinma of All Progressive Congress (APC) as the validly elected Governor.

The National Youth Leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Arthur Obiora, made the call while speaking with newsmen in Enugu on political developments in Imo.

Obiora insisted that no matter what happens, the interest of Imo people and residents “must be sacrosanct’’ and all political gladiators in the state must due to the people’s interest pursue and endear peace.

He, however, urged whoever takes up mantle of leadership in the state to live-up to Imo’s people expectation and ensure to fulfill his electioneering campaign promises to the people.

“Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Wing is asking for calmness in the whole of Imo State.

“We may not agree with Supreme Court’s judgment but we are duty bound as law abiding and responsible citizens to accept it.

“We ask the new government to ensure that it keeps her campaign promises made to the good people of Imo State at the end of the day,

“Ohaneze believes that good governance is all about bringing dividends of democracy to the people.

“And the very best of good governance is what the peace loving people and residents of Imo State want now,’’ he said
