A German philosopher, Wilhelm Heinse’s quote; “What are millions of men, who all their lives have have not had a single hour like his (Napoleon) compared with this one man” can be likened to the man Rt. Hon. Barr Chima Obieze whom against all odds, continue to blaze the trails.
Rt. Hon. Obieze Hon Chima Obieze rose from being a young Church youth leader to a Student Union Leader from where his Leadership prowess blossomed earning him a seat on the circular politics.
The revered Ooni of Ife, Enitan Adewusi Adeyeye Ojaja ll, must have seen what the entire Ezeagu people saw that made them send him to the State House of Assembly for the 5th year running thus, nominated him alongside Alh Shehu Shagari’s and Awolowo’s grandsons among the 100 influential Young Nigerians.
In the words of the Yoruba First Class monarch, “I invited you here because my research and findings show you have distinguished yourself as a very Outstanding Young Leader and I believe that the future holds more for you. Keep being humble and continue to do things right. I will be here to guide and assist you from time to time.
“We are nurturing the self-esteem of the average youth so that leadership can register with them as something that they have to demand. We are giving this award so that they can be closer to leadership in public and private sectors.
“If you don’t have it, it is like they don’t know where they are going. Mentorship is very key. You can’t just wake up and say I want to hammer.
“Nigerian youths have social media as their biggest tool so we want to hear the success stories and prepare the grounds for those coming behind.”
The highly profiled selected awardees between the ages of 19 and 39 were picked from across all tribes and professions following their campaign trail and how impactful they have been locally and globally.
Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze’s nomination by the Ooni didn’t come as a surprise to those that understands what Obieze has been up to.
He is a writer, a poet, and a motivational Speaker. He sponsors an Education Enhancement Program for indigent members of his constituency and under this programme, about 21 students are under scholarship while the project funds the purchase of WAEC and Jamb forms for brilliant but indigent students.
His leadership acumen isn’t in doubt either as it has earned him a space on the table of leadership beyond Nigeria. Today, he is the African Ambassador at the World Youth Summit and also, an ECOWAS Youth Ambassador.
In recognition of his outstanding personality, he was awarded the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps man of the year in 2018.
He was also, the Youngest member of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council in 2019.
