The political atmosphere in Nsukka local government area of Enugu state is very charged at the moment as the residents seem resolute on their demand for the immediate council boss, Patrick Omeje, not to be given opportunity to come back as their Chairman over what they termed “abysmal performance and high handedness”

Their demand for Omeje not to be reelected climaxed on Friday after it was confirmed that he’s to fly the party’s flag (PDP) in the forthcoming council election on February 29th. The angry youths stormed the council with a mock coffin demanding that he should leave their council alone.

The youths that converged at the popular Opi junction with the mock coffin demanding that Omeje (aka Atakpa) must not be allowed to come back.

A source who witnessed the ugly development told Journalist101 that the police intercepted the protesters when they made attempts to head towards Orba and whisked some of the protesters away to Obollo Afor Police station.

The source said; “the people seems fed up with the shenanigans of Mr Omeje who has failed woefully in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

“If you look at what’s happening in the council and juxtapose it with the allocation accrued to the council in the year under review, you will see that that their anger is justified.”

Another source disclosed that the people wants the Governor to intervene because the man whom the party’s ticket was given to has failed them.

“We know our Governor is a man of peace and won’t like Nsukka to be destabilized. The arrest of some of the protesters is uncalled for because it’s their inherent right to express themselves that’s within the law.

Attempt to get the reaction of Mr Omeje was unsuccessful as he didn’t answer his phone call and attempts to get the reaction of the police public relations officer in Enugu, ASP Ndukwe, failed as at press time.

Journalist101 further learnt that the protesters and the mock coffin were moved to the State CID.
