Succor came the way the patients at Udi general hospital in Udi local government area of Enugu state as The Maurice Akueme Foundation stepped in to pay their bills. Both those on admission and out patients that were in the hospital benefited from the kind gesture.
The foundation whose founder is Sir Maurice Emeka Akueme said their choice of a hospital outside the state capital is informed by their firm understanding that this is where you will get the downtrodden and people that genuinely needs help.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent couldn’t hide their joy as they prayed for the foundation and her Founder, Sir, Akueme.
One of the beneficiaries who gave his name as Peter who’s an outpatient in the hospital said what he saw happening in the hospital is “strange.” “I came here this morning to receive treatment because i’m not feeling too well but to my chagrin, a group took full responsibility of my bills even the medicine prescribed for me was paid for,” Mr. Peter said. He prayed to God to bless the foundation and her her founder.
Mrs Bridget Igbonekwu from Ezeagu local government in Enugu state said her daughter was rushed to the hospital and was subsequently admitted due to the severity of her ailment. “When i got to the hospital today, i saw this group that were helping those in the hospital pay their bills,”she said.
When asked if she was assisted by the group, she said “very well!”
Speaking to Journalist101, the founder of the Foundation, Maurice Emeka Akueme said: “I’m doing what i’m doing today because i’m a firm believer of giving back to the community.”
Asked if his foundation receives any form of support, he said “No, whatever we are doing is financed by me solely and it gives me joy doing it.”
The foundation whose office is located at 96 Zik Avenue, Enugu, also paid the hospital bills of those who were discharged from the hospital but were unable to offset their bill.
