The people of Eziama community in Enugu East local government of Enugu state can now sleep with their two eyes closed following the arrest of a notorious kidnap gang that has been terrorizing the area in recent time.
The gang is responsible for so many kidnaps in the area and has subjected the people to be be living in great fear.
However, luck ran out on them in the month of May as the Operatives of Enugu state Police command began closing in on them, releasing their victims and dislodging them from their hideouts.
On the 16th of May, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cult Units successfully rescued a father and her daughter that were reportedly kidnapped on the 15th of May, 2020at about 5PM from a building site in Eziama Abakpa-Nike, Enugu and taken to an unknown destination. The victims JOURNALIST101 learnt has since united with their family.
The kidnappers were dealt a heavier blow on the 26th of May when the command attempted to rescue another victim that was whisked away on the 25th of May, 2020.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe told Journalist101 that: “Their last victim was kidnapped on 25/05/2020 at about 2030hrs in exchange for her son and one other, who were being held by the alleged Kidnappers.
“However, following a tactical and intelligence-led operation carried out by Operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit at the said forest, the victim was successfully rescued unhurt, after an intense gun battle with the Kidnappers, which led to the death of one of the suspected kidnapper and the arrest of the other with severe bullets injuries and in a critical condition.”
Items recovered from the hoodlums include; 1 AK-47 rifle with breech no. HM9221, 20 rounds of live ammunition, 2 matches, 4 handsets and a cash sum of Seven Hundred Naira (N700.00).
