Prof Olu Ogunsakin, the Director General of National Institute for Police Studies, has described the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) as a new dimension in the fight against crime in the society and an initiative that’s making the difference in community policing.

The Don also gave kudos to the Inspector General of Police IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu and the Nigeria Police Force for Coming up with the Programme.

Prof Ogunsakin gave the commendation recently in his office at Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters Abuja when the National Coordinator POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu alongside his team that’s made up of Shina Philips the media consultant to the IGP and President, Match Makers Consult, Mr. Akin Emmanuel, POCACOV lead consultant, Onuora Aninwobodo, amongst others, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Prof Ogunsakin said that “POCACOV since its inception is making the difference as it engages itself with the children and youth mobilizations against cultism, sexual and Gender Based Violence, thuggery/violence, substance abuse and other vices through advocacy, awareness creation/sensitization and re-Orientation.

“It is a programme that is Community driven and involves different stakeholders to aid in getting to the root of crime and criminality and proffering solution leading to their resolutions, thus making the Nation safe and secured in line with the principles of community policing.

Prof Ogunsakin also commended the National Coordinator of POCACOV and other team/stakeholders for their untiring efforts aimed at continually getting the message of POCACOV to every nooks and crannies of Nigeria adding that; “POCACOV is a new direction from the Nigeria Police Force aimed at combating Cultism and other vices using Community Oriented Policing approaches”. He further revealed that POCACOV has been adopted by the National Institute for police studies and will be given a place when the institute finally move to its permanent location.

CSP Ebere Amaraizu in his response, thanked the Prof Ogunsakin who also doubles as the Technical Adviser to the Inspector General of police for his continual support for the existence and growth of POCACOV throughout the federation.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of POCACOV Campaign T Shirt to Prof Olu Ogunsakin.
