The dilapidated nature of ancient bridge linking Aguma the headquarters of Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State and Sharia a commercial city has become a nightmare and a source of concern as the bridge has been abandoned by all successful governments for decades.
Failure in the part of the government to construct the bridge, the Bassa ethnic group set to raise N150m for the construction. According to the information made available to Journalist 101 through their whatsapp group, the construction said to have been estimated by the expert at the cost of N150m.
The group consist of Bassa sons and daughters in diaspora led By Barr. Zagana Gbaje, called on the sons and daughters of Bassa nation to contribute their quota in ensuring the actualization of the project.
According to him, “we will not wait for the government because we don’t know when the government is coming in, this bridge have remained dilapidated and a death trap for decades.
“The commercial activities of this area is gradually deteriorating due to lack of road accessibility. If the government decides to come in, good and find, but the Bassa nation is ready and well prepared to salvage the situation”, he noted.
He also appeal to other ethnic groups residing in the area and well-meaning Nigerians to contribution towards the execution of the projects because according to him, all communities around the area are into agriculture production, which will enhance food security in the country.
He equally called on the government of Kogi State and the federal government to come to their aide. Stressing that the bridge is at the verging of total collapsing if quick action is not taken or deployed.
However, the group have agreed to make individual monetary contribution, which will amount to N150m for the construction of the ancient bridge.
