The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the newly created Zone 13 of the Nigeria Police Force, Dan-Mallam Mohammed, fdc, has described cultism in the country as a “pandemic”.

Dan-Mallam who is responsible for Enugu and Anambra States Police Command made the statement when the National Coordinator of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu led some stakeholders to pay a courtesy visit to the police Chief.

AIG Dan-Mallam also stated that; “the issue of cultism is as bad as drug pushing, kidnapping and other crimes in the country.”

“Cultism is one of the greatest challenge facing our country and the solution to it is another big challenge because the scourge is spreading like wild fire amongst the youths, and even those in the primary school and artisans have become interested in joining a cult group.”

He appreciated the stakeholders for their sacrifice and patriotism towards the project they are championing stressing that “patriotism breeds love and love breeds unity which is what we all need in the country.

“You are on the right course and doing the right service to the society.”

He also advised the that the campaign should look at various areas that’s affecting our environment and assured of his readiness to support the initiative in any way he can and galvanize the relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of the project.

In his remark earlier at the visit, the National Coordinator of POCACOV described the AIG as “one of the founding fathers of POCACOV.”

Eulogizing the police Chief, Amaraizu said is their leader who “has given them direction. “He knows everything that has to do with stakeholders engagement and connectivity and this is one of the tools that made him an outstanding as the Police officer when he was the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State.

“He is a democratic man, that’s Police of the people by the people and for the people and he’s a just man. Even when we make mistakes, he has a way of ensuring that the mistake is corrected.”

Also speaking at the event, one of the stakeholders of POCACOV in Anambra State and Secretary, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Prince Orjika Donatus thanked the AIG for his kind words and assured him of their dedication in ensuring that the message of POCACOV is spread across the state.

High point of the visit was the presentation of POCACOV t-shirt and cap to AIG Dan-Mallam by the National Coordinator, CSP Amaraizu.
