•Scheme to run annually concurrently in Nkanu Land

The Leadership of Nkanu Youth Council (NYC) worldwide through the NYC Scholarship Board, in partnership with the Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwyanyi on NYSC Matters, Hon. Ferguson Chimaraoke Nnamani, has paid tuition fees of 120 indigent secondary school students in Enugu East Senatorial zone.

According to the group, the scholarship scheme which was done based on need, assessment and merit is structured to run annually and will attract 20 students each from the six Local Government Areas of Enugu East Senatorial zone.

It listed the schools that benefited from the scheme to include; Girls Secondary School, Nara(Nkanu East), (Principal: Mrs Chukwu Eucharia); Obe Technical School, Obe(Nkanu West), (Principal: Mrs Elizabeth Okolike); Community Secondary School, Iva Valley(Enugu North LGA), (Principal: Mr Udeh Nicholas); Community Secondary School Obeagu(Enugu South LGA), (Principal: Mrs Kate Okonkwo); Community Secondary School, Ugwogo Nike(Enugu East LGA), (Principal: Mr John Ikpa), Community Secondary School, Umualor(Isi-uzo LGA), (Principal: Mrs FC Ezeh).

The various school principals and some students recipients expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Nkanu Youth Council Scholarship Board and Hon. Ferguson Chimaraoke Nnamani for the laudable initiative and prayed for the two bodies, describing them as the Pride of Nkanu land.

While addressing the students of Obe Technical School, Hon. Nnamani, the son of the former state governor and current senator representing Enugu East, Dr. Chimaraoke Nnamani, expressed joy in meeting and reaching out to his little brothers and sisters, advising the students to be hopeful and focused on their education for there are better days ahead.

In his reaction, the National President of Nkanu Youth Council worldwide and Special Assistant to the governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for providing the enabling environment for qualitative education through good governance in the state.

He admonished the student beneficiaries to be of good, moral behaviour to the society, shunning all forms of juvenile delinquency and maintaining the law of social contract for a better society.

Ani also stressed that the Nkanu Youth Council Scholarship Initiative would be an annual program so as to continue to contribute to efforts for the eradication of illiteracy amongst the youths “and to achieve the better Nkanu of our dream.”

The Director of Schools Nkanu Youth Council, Amb. Jude Ogene Ogbodo and the committee on scholarship expressed gratitude on the success of the programme.
