The National Coordinator Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices(POCACOV), CSP Ebere Amaraizu has hailed the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare for taking the bold step that led to the reviving of the famous Principals Cup in schools and colleges.

Amaraizu was reacting in respect to the ceremonial kick-off of the Principals Cup held in Lagos, describing it as a veritable platform for Self Discovery and an instrument of life coping skills which POCACOV advocates for strategic leadership direction.

According to him, “Some of us are product of Principals Cup. As a game prefect then, I enjoyed the exposure it gives to school children as we regularly compete. It also afforded the opportunity of self discovery as through that potentials are discovered and thereafter developed. It also helps in the engagement of mind and body positively and great factor and requirement in life coping skill as regular exercise is good for physical and emotional health.

“The principals cup will no doubt serve as a veritable platform of life coping skills because apart from helping the school children to discover themselves and unite for greater nations, it will help to expose them to various frontiers that will make them to be able to accept challenges with open arms and not to fear the future.

“Ability of young minds not to accept challenges with open minds, makes them to feel threatened and fear the future and as a result take to crime, violence, drug and other related vices which usually aid in lack of self discovery.”

He, however, appealed further for the enhancing of its scope to include school chess and taekwondo competition because of their benefits in self discovery and life coping skills.

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices(POCACOV) is a community driven programme of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP M.A Adamu aimed at sensitizing different stakeholders using community policing tools on the dangers of cultism and other vices and mitigating it. It is also an initiative to save the Nigerian children and youths from the claws of cultism and other vices through advocacy, awareness creation/sensitization, reorientation and mentoring and giving and galvanizing stakeholders support for strategic leadership direction.
