POCACOV

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has expressed happiness and satisfaction with the bold step taken by both the Lagos state House of Assembly members who recently initiated a Bill against cultism as well as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for signing the anti-cultism bill into law.

According to the National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, “this is a right step in the right direction and boost to the ongoing nationwide campaign against cultism and other vices. This is very proactive and it’s in line with the Nigeria Police Force crime management work plan under IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu and as contained in his public safety and security framework for a safe, peaceful and secured community through the involvement of different stakeholders.

“The development is a clear demonstration that time has come for our young ones to SAY NO TO CULTISM AND OTHER VICES,AND BE A CHAMPION.”

It was gathered that the Lagos state Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a 21-year jail term for convicted cultists in the state after signing the bill for the prohibition of unlawful societies and cultism of 2021.

It could be recalled that in February 2021, the Lagos state House of Assembly passed the anti-cultism bill, which also stipulates a 15-year jail term for anyone found guilty of abetting cultists and residents who wilfully allow their properties to be used as a meeting point for cultists.

Amaraizu went on to state that this has shown that the advocacy, sensitizations and awareness creation as well as reorientation by the Police Campaign Against Cultism and other Vices(POCACOV) is bearing positive fruit on stakeholders’ participations and involvement towards mitigating cultism and other vices and urged others to do well and identify with the ongoing nationwide campaign against cultism and other vices in order to save Nigerian children and youths from the claws of cultism and other vices.

POCACOV is a community driven and oriented program of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu aimed sensitizing different stakeholders on the dangers of cultism and other vices as well as to save nigerian children and youths from the claws or perils of cultism and other vices.
