Fidelity Advert
Dr. Ben Nwoye, Enug APC Chairman

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Enugu State chapter, Dr. Ben Nwoye, weekend, frowned at the unnecessary heating up of the political arena by different political actors stressing that “it’s even illegal to do so at this point in time.”

Nwoye said its out of place for people to start talking about another election when this administration still has over two years as: “Our constitutional democracy recommends four years for a single tenure. The same constitutional democracy allows INEC to take charge as to when electioneering commence. It would be a breach of electoral law for people to launch political campaign under any guise of either socio-cultural groups/symposium or mini-rallies, because our system is a product of law.”

Nwoye cautioned that the actions of these political players could affect governance because “governance stops when politics begins” and “we have responsibilities as politicians and as leaders to understand that when someone is elected, he should be allowed the airspace to run the government.

Speaking further, the APC Boss said “the average Enugu citizen is worried about the next meal; the average petty trader is worried about what will be the fate of their small shop; the average student is worried about weather or not he/she will graduate within the period prescribed by the University or the institution’s academic calendar without interruption by academic or non academic staff based on either the inability of the government to pay their salaries or to meet basic demand necessity for educational process, the average civil servant is worried about the next salary, weather he will be paid on time or in arrears; etc. These people aren’t worried about where the next governor of the State comes from.”

“They don’t wake up and engage in the worry of who is of the Nsukka origin and who is of the Enugu origin.

“They don’t wake up to think about where the power will revolve, whether an unknown person of Enugu North, Enugu West or Enugu East will become the governor of Enugu State.

“So, I’m begging the leaders of Enugu, the political gladiators, and political activists, who are taking turns and trying to heat up the polity, to slow down a bit, let us look at our society as its presently constituted.”

Barr. Nwoye is expressed sadness over the inability of all the political players to pay respect to the people killed in our neighbouring state.

“It saddened me that in all of those theatres of political activism that I didn’t see a moment of silent for our brothers and sisters who were brutally murdered in our neighbouring state for no other reason other than hatred, man inhumanity to follow man was not addressed in any of the monologue or dialogue that are put together by given people in the so called zoning system.”
