The Member representing Ezeagu constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze has called for the immediate release of the student and youth leaders illegally arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Thursday night in Enugu.

Journalist101 had reported that EFCC operatives stormed Castle Majestic Hotel, where some youth and students leaders were meeting and whisked over 40 of them away.

While condemning the act, Hon. Obieze maintained that the fundamental human rights of the student and youth leaders must be respected as thier looks and driving goof cars shouldn’t be a crime.

Obieze in a statement on Friday said the anti graft agency must be professional in the discharge of their duties as a respected commission.

The statement reads:

“My attention has been drawn to a viral report and clips on social media showing how suspected operatives of the EFCC raided the venue of the Southeast Youth & Students Leaders meeting and violently abused the youth/students Leaders and whisked some of them away at Castle Majestic hotel, somewhere in Ogui Road.

“It is my hope that the Operatives did due diligence in their investigation before embarking on the said operation, otherwise it will be shameful if these young Leaders were picked up simply because they are Youths and looked good or driving good cars.

“The EFCC is a well respected Graft Institution in Nigeria and must carry out their operations in line with due process, rules of engagement and proper investigations. I therefore condemn this alleged harassment and call for the immediate release of all Innocent Youth and Students Leaders so arrested.

“Citizens’ fundamental rights must be respected by Security agencies in carrying out their duties.”
