The Executive Captain of the Tennis Section, Enugu Sports Club, Hon. Robert Ogbonna Ngwu has pledged that his administration would promote and sponsor internal and external inter-club/intra-club Tennis Tournaments to enhance the game of tennis in the country.

His administration will also participate in the East of the Niger Inter-club Tennis League (ENIC) and Youth Championship.

Ngwu made the pledge in Enugu in his address at the inauguration ceremony of the 2021/2022 Tennis Executive of the Club at the weekend.

Speaking at the colourful event which took place at the Enugu Sports Club (Tennis Section), the new Captain stated that the new Executive Team which he heads had already identified realistic areas of focus, which also included refurbishment and renovation of Courts 1, 2, and 3 as well as installation of Roof-Water-Collectors (roof gutters) in anticipated partnership with the Club.

His Team will as well install modern energy-saving floodlights in Court 2 to compliment the one already installed in Court 1.

The floodlight, according to him, would enable them to commence night tennis for the benefit of their busy members.

“This will offer opportunities for members, our Bankers and other professionals who work late; to join other elite clubs in providing Night Tennis; and to encourage and attract young membership for an aging Section,” he said.

Ngwu said he will work with Prof. Gab Agu Led Tennis Association to bring home the 28-Seater bus promised by the Governor of Enugu State, as this will enhance participation in their club tournaments and other activities of their members.

The new Tennis Captain solicited the financial support and encouragement of members and the public to achieve the capital-intensive projects and initiatives, even as he pledged that any financial support received would be judiciously utilized in a transparent way.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Emeka Azie noted that the renovation/refurbishment of the Courts and other developments in the Club had always been through the generosity of public spirited members and individuals and called on them to support the new executive.
