The primary election of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State has come and gone but one thing that has remained on the lips of so many party faithfuls is the utmost respect for zoning in their various council areas by the Governor, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The latest comment is coming from the leaders of thought, political and traditional rulers from Ezeagu South Development Area in Ezeagu Local Government that was at the Government House over the weekend for a ‘Thank-you’ visit applauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for consistently keeping faith with the principle of zoning of political positions, anchored on equity and justice.
The delegation said they’re happy with amicable resolution of the issues surrounding the zoning of the Ezeagu LGA Chairmanship position under the arrangement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State.
The delegation which was led by Rt. Hon. Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives who represented Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, said they were delighted at the manner, and wisdom, the governor displayed in handling the zoning of the Chairmanship position to Ezeagu South without rancour, during the PDP consultative meeting.
Hon. Ozomgbachi said: “We are here to show our wealth of gratitude and thanks on how the issue of zoning was handled in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
“How this was done is amazing but not surprising going by the manner you proffer solutions to difficult tasks. When the issue was raging, you said biker no more for I’m here to ensure that justice is served.
“You listened to us in the micro-zoning and have helped us in our zoning arrangement which further demonstrated that your word is your bond.
The former lawmaker added that Gov. Ugwuanyi exhibited similar capacity when he chaired the National Zoning Committee of the PDP, preparatory to the Party’s National Convention which took place in October 2021.
“You demonstrated this same capacity when you served as the Chairman of the National Zoning Committee of the PDP for their National Convention. Your action gave the party a rancour free convention.”
Ozomgbachi went on to assure the Governor that the people of Ezeagu will continue to support him even when he leaves office.
In his response, Gov. Ugwuanyi, attributed the success recorded during the zoning deliberations to God Almighty and told the delegation that he saw the visit as an opportunity for him to join them in thanking God.
He also thanked them for their support all these years and praying for him, adding that their prayers have always sustained him stressing that “when leaders are supported, they make iconic decisions and this removes insecurity and brings peace, unity and development to the people.”
The governor advocated for proper understanding amongst the people when choosing their leaders as this will make Enugu State a better place and advised the people of Ezeagu LGA to officially document their zoning arrangement for posterity.

Chukwudi Fred Ezinwa; the Chairman, Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Igwe Amb. Lawrence Agubuzu and other Royal Fathers, namely: HRH Igwe A. U. Otiji, HRH C. N. Ozoeze; HRM Eze S.M. Ozoekwem and HRH Igwe G.U. Ozonwu, were at the event.
