Two men were on Wednesday arraigned before a Badagry Magistrate Court for beating and locking up two police officer in their house.

The officers, Inspector Izevbekhai Imevbore and Inspector Ariyo Kayode, who were sent from Morogbo Division to the two men, who in turn assaulted and threatened the lives of the two police officers, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The suspects, Sule Kurti (49) and Omotunde Ismail (35) are standing trial on four counts of assault, threat to life, breach of peace and malicious damage.

According to the prosecuting officers, ASP Ikem Uko, the defendants committed the offence on May 7, at about 5 am in the Morogbo area of Lagos.

He said: “The defendants hit one of the officers, Kayode, with an iron rod on his left hand and shoulder and inflicted internal injury on him.

“They also assaulted them by locking the police officers in their house and beating them while performing their constitutional duty.

“The defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by locking the iron gate against them.

“They also damaged one phone valued at N45,000, property of one of the police officers.”

The Magistrate granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned to May 25.
