Operatives of the Nigeria Army has on Tuesday attacked students protesting against the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Akure.

The students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, in Akure, had, alongside, counterparts from neighboring states, barricaded major highways, including the Benin-Ore Express road while they protested.

Reports revealed that the students had blocked the Akure-Ilesa axis of the highway, demonstrating against the ASUU Strike when the soldiers invaded the area and started shooting indiscriminately.

In a viral video, one of the students was seeing saying, “The Nigerian Army; they came here and started shooting. See all our things. See what the Nigerian Army did to us.”

“The Nigerian Army that should protect us; see our equipment. We were here peacefully. We are fighting for our rights. See all our things,” another student fumed in the video,” another student said in the video.

The ASUU strike, which began on February 14, has entered 92 days, causing students to continuously protest the strike.
